Lightroom Tutorial: 3 easy steps to a Cinematic Look

Creating a cinema inspired effect in Adobe Lightroom may look like a drama at first, but it really isn’t. In this quick tutorial, i’ll show you how to get a Cinematic Look in just 3 steps!

If you’re looking to edit your photographs in a bunch of different styles in just one click, then check out my Lightroom presets!

Right, on with the tutorial!

We’re going to turn this image:

Into THIS:

Step 1

Open your image in the Develop Module (keyboard shortcut D).

Under the Basic tab, reduce the contrast and highlights, and increase the shadows, whites and blacks. The amounts to adjust are up to you, but i’ve found the below work best:

Increase the Clarity, and reduce the Vibrance and Saturation.

Step 2

In the Tone Curve panel, use the drop down menu and select ‘Medium Contrast’.

Step 3

Finally, open the Effects tab, and reduce the Post-Crop Vignetting down to about -15. You can use more or less of course; it just depends on the result you’re looking for.

BOOM! There we have it!

Note: Don’t worry about the noise in the sky in my end image. I made the mistake of using a JPEG and not a RAW file!
